Tales from the Home school....#covid19 #homeschool #lockdownireland #lockdown #pagan

It's not homeschooling, she says with a very snooty toss of her head. There is a woman being interviewed on TV; she has home-schooled her children since they could walk. She was unpopular for doing so, she has suffered for her principles. She felt no one understood her children or could meet their needs, the way she could. She is unpopular even among other, less evangelical home-schoolers, who hate the way she makes them look. We're not all cranks, they mutter silently. But she is the one the TV stations like to interview. It's NOT home school. It is distance learning. It's a very different thing. Apparently. I don't give a fuck, missus. I'm calling it home school because distance learning is too much effort. There. Go suck on that for a while. Being housebound, being forced out of work and into a living room masquerading as a classroom, has soured me. I admit it. I'm a wee bit bitter. And I might be doing the pedantic spokeswoman for all thin...

Self Isolation and how to use this time to explore some magical ways (if you want)

Image
Disclaimer You can spend the next three weeks in isolation alone or with your family, sitting on your arse and watching tv . THIS IS A PERFECTLY VALID CHOICE. Don't let anyone shame you into trying to be "Productive" - it's a myth and a burden. If you get through this doing basic normal things and don't come out the other end speaking a new language or playing concert piano, so what? (anyway uke is more fun than piano)   The important thing is to come out the other side, as sane as possible . The pressure to suddenly revel in deep spiritual insights in isolation, cherish this time, become a better person - all bollix. This post is only for you if you want to try something new, or renew your interests. Otherwise, scroll on by with my absolute blessing. SO, assuming you're now bored out of your gourd and thinking, what the fuck have I done with my life up til now? (No? Just me then? )here are a few magical chores you should fill your time with. Simple Tips from the Dark Winged One on surviving C-19 and other Winter Emergencies!

Image
Never mind Corona Virus ....I've said it every year, everyone needs a winter cupboard - in case of storms, snow, and ESB strikes, never mind C-19. There are simple, inexpensive ways of preparing yourself for periods of being stuck inside. A "Winter Cupboard" is really something every home should have, whether it's just you or you plus all your immediate family, dogs, cats and next door's Granny. There are events that can happen every year, from power-cuts, to unusual snow falls - and you should start being ready for them. I say this as someone who has to budget for each weekly shop and add an item in every week, so this is an exercise in cost effective preparation. Also, check on others - check your elderly neighbours, ring your isolated friends, offer to share if they need something and you can manage. We will all get through, if only we remember that we are in this together. Pay especial care to those who are not native to Ireland, who may not have...

Big Big men....the grown men behind the threats to Greta Thurnberg

Image: Bristol Post UK There's something about a girl being vocal about her opinions that sets off a certain type of toxic male and thanks to the Bristol Post in the UK, we get to have a look at them!  Well done to the Bristol Post, we need to drag this kind of misogyny out in to the daylight, and then skewer it through the head. Save a special eye roll for the bold brave "Max Poncho Morgan" whose profile picture sports a "be Kind" filter. Oh, the wit. Sorry, not "wit" - meant to type "Thundering Dickhead." Another kind soul is  Kevin Bird, who posted on Facebook: "Crush the b***h. Sounds good to me. Send her home" These are not young teen males, these are adult, mainly middle aged men some of whom are parents. Actually allowed to be in charge of innocent children...let that sink in. Read the full article - and remember to thank the Bristol Post for doing what all media should do. Name and Shame.
